For anyone with a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm at home
Is your smoke alarm on a US safety warning list?
Cheap smoke and carbon monoxide alarms sold online keep failing safety tests. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns people to stop using them, but without a recall, owners must find the warning themselves.

How the check works
How it works
We keep a hand-checked list of CPSC warnings and recalls for smoke, CO and gas-CO alarms, each with its link below. A model number or Amazon item number match means the notice names your alarm. Replace-by dates: smoke alarms 10 years from the made-on date (U.S. Fire Administration); CO alarms by the "replace by" date or the life the maker prints on the label, and CPSC's general advice is every 5 years when no date is shown.
A brand-only match means the notice names that brand for certain models, so compare the model on your label. "Not on our list" is not proof an alarm works: press the test button and replace it by its date.
Rules: U.S. Fire Administration on smoke alarms (test monthly, replace 10 years from the made-on date), UL Solutions (UL 217 smoke, UL 2034 CO), CPSC on alarm age. Last checked against cpsc.gov: .
